From its simple beginning in 1990 providing US-based training, IACIS has become the international benchmark in digital forensic training.
In 1989, The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), located in Brunswick, Georgia, has a long and colorful history as a training center for federal law enforcement organizations. Here, a training course titled ‘SCER’ was developed by experts in federal, state, and municipal law enforcement along with software leaders. This course focuses on the seizure, examination, and extraction of evidence from computers involved in criminal activities.
Members of this cadre formed IACIS as a non-profit and held their first training class in Portland, OR in 1991.
In 2006 IACIS entered into a training partnership with an EU organization to provide training to the EU law enforcement community.
FSAB Accreditation
IACIS is proud of the fact that our Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) certification is the first, and currently the only accredited certification program for the digital forensic discipline.
CFCE is accredited by the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board (FSAB), fulfilling all the requirements of FSAB Standards Version 2019 and ISO Standard 17024. Our CFCE program was initially accredited in 2012 and renewed in 2017. IACIS’ 2022 re-accreditation is aligned with ISO/IEC 17024:2012 and is extended until 2027.

IACIS offers two additional certification programs, Certified Advanced Windows Forensic Examiner (CAWFE) and the IACIS Certified Mobile Device Examiner (ICMDE) which are not FSAB accredited today. Our goal is to attain accreditation for these programs in future years.
